We make our way to Lake Garda, a top Italian destination with a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere to accompany the stunning views. History buff? You’ll adore Verona. Itinerary

This is the general itinerary that is used for the trip. Itineraries are subject to change based on weather, group preferences, and other circumstances. Click on each day to discover a more detailed description of the itinerary.

Our tour starts in Bolzano, the capital of the South Tyrol region and a beautiful Alpine town. You will notice a definite German influence on the architecture, language, and food. You can explore the city or venture out to the surrounding mountains to admire the beauty of the Dolomites. If you would like, you can opt to spend the night in a castle just outside of town!

Our first day of biking takes us along the Adige River through a gorgeous valley. We bike past apple orchards and vineyards on a flat bike path, free of cars allowing you to enjoy the scenery. After 20 miles at the halfway point, you can either ride in the van or continue biking on to Trento.  (20 or 40 miles, 225ft net elevation loss)

Today we continue biking south along the Adige River. After a short uphill push we come to Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake. We coast downhill to the lakefront town of Torbole, a great place to shop or eat beside the lake. We then take a ferry to the charming town of Malcesine where we spend the next two nights at a gorgeous lakefront hotel. (30 miles, 300ft net elevation loss)

Today is a free day to explore the beautiful lake. Set beneath majestic mountains, you will be mesmerized by how beautiful Lake Garda is. You can relax by the lake, visit the town’s castle, take a gondola up to the top of Monte Baldo, or partake in one of the many adventure activities such as mountain biking, paragliding, canyoning, hiking, kayaking, or windsurfing, among others.

After a delicious lakeside breakfast, we take a ferry to the southern end of Lake Garda to the town of Bardolino where we begin biking again. We bike along the lake to the town of Lazise before heading away from the lake and into wine country. Biking past vineyards and wineries, we arrive to a stunning villa hotel in the Valpolicella region where will spend the next two nights. (10 miles, 30ft net elevation loss)

The Valpolicella region is one of Italy’s premier wine growing regions, and biking past the vineyards and rolling hills is the best way to experience it! We will stop at a couple of the wineries, and if you decide you enjoy wine tasting more than biking then rest assured the van is available to drive you around! If you’d like another rest day, you can enjoy a relaxing day at the villa. In the evening, partake in an optional cooking class where you can learn the secrets to Italian cuisine.  (mileage varies)

Today’s shorter ride takes us to Verona, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Surrounded on three sides by the Adige River, Verona has buildings dating back to the Romans (including the Arena, a mini-Colosseum) and is famous for being the location where Romeo & Juliet took place. Verona has excellent shopping and several great museums- if you have the time we recommend spending an extra day or two in the city after the tour ends.  (6 miles, 40ft net elevation loss)
